You need a document notarized. Maybe it is for a Korean bank, a foreign court, an immigration file, or a real estate matter overseas. The wording matters. The stamp matters. So does the lawyer who watches you sign.
James Moon is a lawyer in Ontario and an appointed Notary Public. He certifies true copies, witnesses sworn declarations, and notarizes documents bound for use inside Canada and abroad. Every appointment runs in Korean or English, whichever you prefer.
Bring valid government photo ID and the original document. James will read it with you, confirm you understand it, and then apply the notarial seal.

What should I bring to a notary appointment?
Bring the original document, unsigned if it requires your signature, and one valid piece of government photo ID such as a driver's licence or passport. If the document refers to other records, such as a marriage certificate or corporate resolution, bring those too. Photocopies of ID are not accepted.
Is a notarization the same as an apostille?
No. A notarization is the lawyer's act of certifying a copy, witnessing a signature, or commissioning an oath. An apostille is a separate certificate issued by Global Affairs Canada or by Ontario's Official Document Services that confirms the notary's authority for use in Hague Convention countries. Canada joined the Convention on January 11, 2024. James will tell you whether your document needs both steps and how to obtain the apostille.
Can James notarize a document written in Korean?
Yes. James reads Korean and English at a first-language level, so he can review the contents, confirm you understand what you are signing, and apply the notarial seal. For documents that must be presented in the other language, ask about the certified translation step before the appointment.
Do you commission affidavits for use in Ontario court?
Yes. As an Ontario lawyer James is a commissioner for taking affidavits by virtue of office under the Commissioners for Taking Affidavits Act. He can prepare or review the body of the affidavit, administer the oath or affirmation, and sign as commissioner. Remember that swearing a false affidavit is a criminal offence, so the contents need to be accurate before you sign.
Can someone else sign on my behalf if I cannot attend?
Not for the notarial act itself. The person signing must appear in person before the notary with valid ID. If you cannot attend, the alternative is usually a properly executed Power of Attorney that authorizes another person to sign specific documents on your behalf. James can prepare that document and walk you through how it will be used.
